Gauteng MTB Finals Promises Great Cycling Action

More than 400 pre-entries have been received for the Gauteng finals of the 2012 Anatomic Spur School Mountainbike Series this weekend at Groenkloof in Pretoria on Saturday.

This three-event series forms the Gauteng leg of the National Spur Schools League where schools participate in provincial events to qualify for an invitation-only national final on the weekend of 21-23 September.

According to Gauteng league co-ordinator Deon Steyn, they are expecting to pass the 600 entry mark and look forward to fierce competition.  He further stated that the currently leaders in the individual categories will also have to pull out all the stops as there are no clear winners for the coveted yellow jerseys.  The rain will certainly add to the difficulty of the already quite technical course with a lot of single track stretches.

Current leaders on the school log Waterkloof High will have to pull out all the stops as Centurion High is in a close second and chasing the top spot.  With only four points separating the four schools vying for third position the race is wide open.  The winning school will receive R 1000 Spur vouchers, while the category series winners will get the popular Anatomic winners jerseys and much more.
