THE TOTALSPORTS LADIES RACE SUPPORTS THE JAG FOUNDATION

(Photo: www.oakpics.com) | On Monday, 09 August 2010 young female runners from the Mighty Metres programme, will celebrate Women’s Day by taking on the much anticipated Totalsports Ladies Race in Stellenbosch.
The Mighty Metres programme is the flagship running initiative of South Africa’s leading sports and education organization, the JAG Foundation. According to Elana Meyer, CEO of the JAG Foundation, the Totalsports Ladies Race is one of the few unique events that the Mighty Metres girls have the opportunity to participate in. “Mighty Metres is an in-school running initiative that requires children to run at least 3km per week. The Mighty Metres programme is a mass participation programme that lays the foundation for JAG’s other programmes - ProNutro JAGRunners and JAGRugby. A lot of our children from the Mighty Metres joined ProNutro JAGRunners and have been seen participating in both trail-running and cross country events”.
Meyer comments further: “As a result of children participating in Mighty Metres and further developing their running or rugby skills a number of our children have excelled and received sponsorships to study at Bishops, SACS and Pinelands High School to name a few. Our Mighty Metres Girls really enjoyed the 2009 Totalsports Ladies Race. They loved all the activity and entertainment. They very proudly wore their medals and were very happy to hear that the Totalsports Ladies Race will be held again this year. I think it’s great to celebrate being a woman and the Totalsports Ladies Race offers an awesome opportunity to do so.”

VENUE: Plein Street, Stellenbosch (Western Cape)
DISTANCE: 5km fun walk & 10km run
TIME: 08h30
The first 4 000 entrants will receive an official race T-shirt and medals will be awarded to all finishers. Walkers, joggers and runners of all ages are invited to take part in both routes through the scenic town of Stellenbosch in honour of women countrywide. Moms with prams are welcome, while husbands, friends and family are encouraged to join in the fun and show support on route.
With awesome prizes up for grabs including: R10 000 Totalsports vouchers and awesome Nike hampers, the 2010 Totalsports Ladies Race is one event not to be missed.
The JAG Foundation is calling on the public’s support to join their JAG AllStars Club. Funds raised will go towards providing transport for the Mighty Metres kids to various sporting events such as the Totalsports Ladies Race.
