It was in July 2007 that Benny Zenga (producer of the Bicycle Film Festival
in Toronto) was approached by Tour d’Afrique with the idea of making a film about
their epic, annual, 12000 km bicycle race & expedition from Cairo to Cape Town.

“Having seen Benny’s quirky ‘Ski Boys’ film and other work of his, we were convinced that
this talented young filmmaker had what it took to produce something unique for the world’s
longest and most challenging bicycle tour.” said Tour d’Afrique Founder, Henry Gold.

Six months later Benny, his brother Christian, filmmaker buddy Brian Vernor, bikes, camera
gear and everything else they would need for four months on the road, were on a flight to
Cairo, Egypt to meet up with 65 riders participating in the 2008 Tour d’Afrique ride.

Summing up his personal highlights of the journey, Benny said “Traveling more than 100
kilometres per day for 120 days through 10 African countries, we experienced the boundless
Nubian desert of Sudan, the great majesty of Victoria Falls, and finally the cold rush of the
Atlantic Ocean.”

The filmmakers returned to Canada with hundreds of hours of stunning footage and over the
year that followed, crafted their 70 minute film titled ‘Where Are You Go’. The film premiered
in New York and headlined in 39 cities in 2009 as part of the annual Bicycle Film Festival.
While Tour d’Afrique is rated as the one of the world’s greatest physical challenges, the
film makes light of the daunting trip by sharing a universal love of the bicycle with Africa’s
roadside mechanics, sporting racers and innumerable curious strangers.

‘Where Are You Go’ captures the tour as a constant adventure - full of playfulness and
mysterious beauty - and is a testament to the endurance of human curiosity.

The film screens on Saturday, 8:00 pm, at the Knysna Cinema. It will be followed by a Q&A
session with Tour d’Afrique veteran, Dr. Joan Louwrens, who did the tour in 2006. Tickets
are R40 and proceeds will go to the Tour d’Afrique Foundation which donates bicycle to
Health Care Workers in Africa.
